It can leak in at the top of the gimbal ring where the steering shaft passes into the boat. There is a seal which holds the water out but the shaft is hardened steel which can rust, pit and ruin the seal. This requires removal of the gimbal ring. But we probably learned more with this tricky installation than we would have from a easy job. Our subject boat is a Crestliner Super Hawk, powered by a Evinrude 70 four-stroke, which is really a Suzuki DF70 with blue paint and Evinrude decals.

There’s a right and a wrong way to perform this essential task. The buildup of salt in your outboard can cause blockages that result in overheating and eventual corrosion. A set of “ear muffs” or “flush muffs” was fitted around the engine’s gearcase to cover the water intakes, connected to a garden hose with a good water supply, and the engine was run for five to 10 minutes.

Salt and brackish water is a corrosive killer of the aluminum from which outboards are made, so flushing every time after saltwater use is a must. can you start jet bout out of water? for a couple seconds everytime i pull it out of the water. i do it to get the water out of it. also if mine is hooked up to the hose, theres a ton of water that comes out of the pump. i am one of the crazy ones that will run it for tuning on the trailer, and i do not see how all the water coming out of.
How do I use and care for my outboard engine in saltwater? Flush your outboard with fresh water after each trip. Use a quality “ear muff” style flushing adapter that fits on the lower unit water pick-up or flushing port when available , and run your engine at idle speed in neutral for at least 5 minutes to flush out any salt. Your owner’s manual will give you more information including important safety precautions on this procedure.
Wash and wax your outboard engine. Careful washing with mild soap and water not only makes your outboard look good, but also removes salt and other deposits. An application of a good quality marine wax will help to seal and protect the finish against the sun and salt. Treat your engine with silicone spray. Every second or third trip, remove the hood of your outboard make sure the engine is turned off and cool to the touch and apply a thin film of silicone spray to the power head.
Be sure to use a type of silicone spray that won’t damage rubber and plastic. One of the best for this is CRC brand heavy-duty silicone lubricant, no. Touch up nicks and scratches in the paint. I was told by a rep from Yamaha that to get optimal life from the engine and its components I should use muffs and run the engine during the flush. I was told that simply hooking it up to the hose connection on the side would bypass the thermostat and a couple other components. Thus not flushing the engine as much as possible. There are two main types of fabric that most inflatable boats are made of. They are either PVC or Hypalon. Caribe, AB and Achilles inflatable boats were made of Hypalon in past. However Hypalon was discontinued by its manufacturer Dupont, and now it is sold under different name CSM. Con – Won’t last as long in the direct sunlight as Hypalon before it starts to fade out if left unprotected. Does not tolerate sunscreen and insect repellent as well as Hypalon.
Will tolerate fuel spills, sunscreen, insect repellent, and exhaust fumes better than PVC. Con – Significantly more expensive then PVC. In general PVC fabric won’t last as long as Hypalon fabric if the boat will be subjected to prolonged periods of direct sunlight and no measures have been taken to protect the PVC fabric from the sun i.
After a number of years in direct sunlight the PVC fabric will become sticky and fade out. Exposure of PVC inflatable boat to direct sunlight is not a problem unless your boat is going to be outside and unprotected all year long. If you only use the boat occasionally such as on weekends or while on vacation then it isn’t a factor at all. Even if you leave your boat outside all the time the issue can be solved simply by putting a boat cover or piece of tarp over your boat when it is not in use.

Jul 04, · I tried to start my sisters GP and it would not start. I pulled the plugs and cleaned them. Hooked up the hose to the place under the seat and tried again. It still would not start. Now when I pull the plugs there is water on them. I disconnected the hose and cranked it with all three plugs out. Water spit out of each cylinder as it cranked.
